Ah yes, it is an unusual class. What is Media Writing anyway? When asked to teach this class, I researched what other universities were teaching in similar classes and the chapters included in text books.
I found a broad definition that included just about any writing that is accessible to others. So, I decided to take my own past experiences with Media Writing and develop a class that introduces the students to at least 15 different styles of writing. And then some.
The blog is new this semester since it seems to be a requirement of many PR and Communications-style careers. I want to prepare you all for post-graduation, while allowing you each to sample a potpourri of writing styles. If you find a style or two that you enjoy, perhaps you'll be inspired to study that with more intensive classes as you progress through your college career.
Above all, I want to help each of you become better, tighter writers. So in the interest of teaching brevity by example, I shall sign off.
Hey, Bob - we missed you in class yesterday. We're writing radio news stories for next week, if you're still onboard with us. I'll post more details of the assignment on Blackboard in a day or so.
